Second day in training TOT

Second day in training TOT
We take so many informations , like :-
1-      Translation for websites names  in to arabic like you tube , facebok and twitter.
2-      Difination of  non profit network
3-      Choose one of of NGOs that is network in yemen , so we chose YLDF  as non network a networked NGO.
4-      Non profit network is ngos has relations with other ngos or anything else has facebook and youtube and how they use them to talk about their activites
5-      many information . I realize the importance of listening .for example from google alert . rules of privacy .and that NGOs should have some limits in sharing informations with other people .for example , NGOs  in yemen can share its activities , to invitie people to share its activities , beside that call people  volunteer  to join their NGO. there are some key words we can use to grab some information in alert . like " social media . social network ,social network in yemen, social meedia online learning ," and so many keywords . you can use in searching for informations in socail media . we have too websites  like social mention and rowfeeder that can give more information in social media field for the new posts in facebook and twitter

Second day on the TOT

Today's lessons on the TOT of the E-mediat program was a great deal knowledgeable in terms of having broad information about social media. For instance, we learnt that there should be a certain degree of transparency when using the social media where some information should be private and the rest to network. An example of this, is the financial information of the organisation. In addition, I learnt how organisations can use some tools for listening purposes which can be done by specifying certain key words in an online tool such as 'Google Alerts', to get any online post related to that key words. In our case, some of the key words can be " social media, social media tools, social culture, media tools in Yemen,....etc". Another great advantage was acquired is knowing about other assessment and listening tools that can be used to track all information or posts about certain key words on the social networks. For example,

SocialMention.com can be used to show all posts about a key word in all social networks, so if we search the key word "emediat", we would get all posts about E-mediat from different social networks such as Facebook, and Twitter as the image shows ->

a networked organization

The sessions of the ToT today focused on social culture, simplicity, transparency,  listening and what does it mean for the organization to work with free agents.
The topics of the sessions were thought provoking, especially organization transparency and working with free agent. Thinking of adapting those concepts to  NGOs  in Yemen, I can see that though it may be difficult for some NGOs to be transparent specially on financial issues, they can benefit from free agent if they are made to understand what free agents can do and how can they work along side the organization to advance its mission and vision.
The concept of “a networked organization” compared to a fortress one spoke to me more than anything else, not because I have seen in my work with many NGOs and CSOs how difficult for organizations to share information and work with others, but also it made me realize how this “ cultural behavior” is holding them back and undermining their work.
The questions that are remain in my mind are:
1.       What are the best practices for moving a fortress organization to a networked one, specifically in the Arab countries context?
2.       How can we identify “ free agents” and involve them in our work?
3.       Transparency and “ Arab NGOs” can they go together? Is there away that could make NGOs in the Arab World more transparent?
A few years ago, many funding agencies were raising the flag about the importance of financial transparency and how can the funding distributed to NGOs, whether national or international, be audited and how can they track that the funding has been put into a good use. Yes, some international donors conduct auditing, but many major international donors don’t care much if the funding is small. Are they contributing, without knowing, to the misuse of these funds and thus making these organization less transparent because they don’t want to be found out? I wonder….

Networking exercise -ToT

The Networking group exercise was the highlight of today ToT, it sparked discussion and encouraged participants to share ideas and pinpoints differences among each country. For me, and I am here talking from the perspective of a trainer, when I was doing this exercise I was thinking constantly how I can adapt it to the context of organizations and networks in Yemen. How can I simplify it and make it more accessible to them, at the same time use it to expand their thinking about their immediate networks as well as to see the bigger picture. For instance, can we divide the network mapping according to topics e.g. a network that have a pool of volunteer, an organization that can provide a free training room or On the other hand, the exercise helped me to identify in my mind, the organizations, participants, groups, online and classical media  outlets that can be brought on board to be an active network for the e-mediat program in Yemen.
The drawn network seen in this photo, which was done during the training, doesn’t cover the whole context of the e-mediat program in Yemen, however it helped the group start thinking who can be a good partner/supporter for the program, it initiated a significant  discussion among the country team on how to involve parties that would promote and create a buzz about the program.

Four things about Lina Aleryani

Hello Everyone,
I am looking forward to meeting all of you at the upcoming ToT in Beirut.
I would like to share with you three things about me:
Ø  I conducted ToT for IT trainers on blogging under the last program ( Women in Technology) which was the first time for me to hear the word blog. I taught myself how to blog and designed a training material on how to start a blog.
Ø  I am very excited about the  e-mediat project, and I believe that it came at the right time as the Arab societies started to realize the importance of this tool.
Ø  I love the type of access and connection “ social media “ provides and I can’t wait to learn more.
Ø  For me , using social media tools takes me to many places, it is a virtual travel and an open window to meeting many people and getting to know  differnt cultures.
See you all at the ToT
